Our ethics and editorial approach
Curiosity with care
We want young people to become informed, thoughtful and considerate. Explanations should respect a child's dignity, encourage questions and make room for uncertainty. Children should not be shamed for asking a question, needing help or learning at a different pace.
Clarity, context and honesty
We aim to explain ideas in language children can understand without replacing accuracy with a misleading simplification. Facts, opinions and areas of uncertainty should be distinguished where relevant. If an explanation contains an error, our aim is to correct it and preserve the child's confidence in the process of learning.
Respect for people and cultures
Learning about the world should encourage respect for people, cultures and different experiences. We reject dehumanising language, bullying and claims that a person's background makes them less worthy of dignity. Sensitive subjects should be approached with care and appropriate adult guidance.
Quality and care
Explanations, translations and recordings should be clear, accurate and suitable for children. We welcome reports of mistakes and aim to make useful corrections. No learning resource is flawless; children should feel comfortable asking questions and seeking help.
Respect for creators
Credits and attributions matter. Existing image, article and recording credits should remain visible, and project branding should not be used to pretend that every underlying work was created by the project. Please contact us about an incorrect attribution or a rights concern.
